Cooling

We have a major problem with our cooling in the cask storage room. This warm weather is playing havoc with cooling systems. Could not get the temperature below 17 in the cask storage area over the weekend. This is obviously not good for the beer.

Bottled Beer

We are brewing our smoked porter (Aile) for bottling today. Aile is Manx Gaelic for Fire so is a rather apt name for a smoked beer. Keep thinking about getting some of our ordinary malt smoked locally at one of the Kipper producing companies. Only worry is would their be a an oily fishy aroma imparted as well

Peated Malt

We had to take in our peated malt from the maltsters in a one tonne bag. We only use this in our smoked porter "Aile" and only use a very small amount. If we left it all in the one tonne bag we would loose the peated aroma. This means we have to rebag it in 25kg bags :(

Todays Brew

Brewing our standard cask bitter today.
We finally have the filter working again, had to send a circuit board away for repair that controlled the running speed of the filter

Brewing another variation of mild today. The last brew was more "porterish" cutting back a little on this and just wondering wether to add a little bit of ginger into the brew

Friday, June 18, 2010

Just received the peated malt that we use for our smoked porter, Aile. However the maltsters can only supply it in one tonne bags now rather than the 25kg bags we used to get. Have got loads of empty sacks and we are going to have to rebag it ourselves

Mild

Sales of Mild are becoming so poor we need to do something about it. Have decided to do e rebrand and alter the recipe and maybe the name. First trial is today. Going to make it a bit mor Porterish in style as that seems to be thing. Great shame as our mild was a traditional mild as drunk for hundreds of years.

Well sales better than lasy year but where are the empty casks

Thursday, June 10, 2010

Still struggling for empty casks, soon as we fill them they are sold and gone

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

Looks like sales of beer are on a par with last year which is disapointing because last year was particularly poor. Either the number of bikers are not here or they are all drinking cans from the supermarket
